About PALP

PALP is an innovative new studio producing premium-quality greeting cards, wrapping paper and gifting accessories.

We celebrate the intricate patterns and processes of the natural world through strong, graphic designs that balance abstraction and allusion. Inspirations include plant forms, wild habitats and the biological systems that drive them.

We use the best materials — always thoughtfully sourced and responsibly produced — and work with suppliers who share our commitment to low-impact, sustainable practices.

Our mission is simple: to create joy and a sense of occasion through the ritual of gifting.

Our background

PALP was founded by Daniel Haynes, who began his career as a designer.

From 2003 to 2007, he worked and studied at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, graduating with the prestigious Kew Diploma in Horticulture.

He then joined the team at GardenersWorld.com, part of the much-loved BBC Gardeners’ World brand. After starting as sub-editor, Daniel became Editor in 2009, overseeing the award-winning gardening website (now the second largest in the UK and third globally).

In 2024, he left to develop PALP, feeling he had “unfinished business” in the world of design and wanting to combine creativity with his horticultural training and editorial insight.

Sustainability at PALP

Sustainability is central to PALP — it informs every choice we make, from materials and suppliers to how we package and deliver our products.

We use FSC-certified papers from G.F Smith, known for their environmental credentials and beautifully crafted stocks. Our print partners minimise waste and follow recognised environmental standards.

Packaging is plastic-free and fully recyclable, with no cellophane or compostable sleeves. We aim to keep things simple, responsible and well considered — without compromising on presentation.

This is an ongoing process, and we’re committed to learning and improving as we grow.

What does PALP mean?

There are multiple resonances in the name PALP:

  • It’s the root of palpable — we love the tactility and texture of beautiful paper
  • A palp is also a mouthpart used by insects to explore their world — a nod to the sensory pleasure of real, physical objects
  • It echoes the word pulp, the raw material from which paper is made
  • Finally, PALP is an acronym: Practical and Luxurious Paper
